Biosolids and Effluent

According to the EPA, composting is a viable, beneficial option in biosolids management.  Using biosolids in the manufacture of compost helps reduce pathogens and results in a product that is beneficial to the environment and is easy to handle, store and use.

Biosolids and effluent are the two by-products of the wastewater treatment process

Biosolids are the solids that are separated from wastewater.  Bio-solids must meet EPA and New Mexico Environment Department standards.

Effluent is non-potable water that can be sold to the public and/or released into the Santa Fe River.  Effluent must meet EPA and New Mexico Environment Department standards.
