The Fire Prevention Division, in conjunction with Operational personnel, conduct fire education presentations that include:
Fire Extinguisher Training
Fire and Evacuation Drills
Fire Safety Presentations
Public education curriculum focuses on home fire safety and fire safety for childern because a majority of fire deaths in the U.S. occur in single and multiple-family dwellings.
The U.S. Fire Administration provides additional fire safety information and eductional materials.
Fire Safety House
The Fire Department has purchased a Fire Safety House. This house is a fun, hands-on learning tool that teaches people of all ages what to do in the event of a fire. A non-toxic smoke simulator creates the illusion of a smoldering fire. Various features throughout the house help childern learn to use a secondary escape plan. A heated door simulates a fire on the other side and helps childern realize the possibility of needing an alternative escape plan.
The City of Santa Fe Fire Department is proud to be in partnership with Safer New Mexico Now in the education and installation of Child Safety Seats. Contact Safer New Mexico Now for information and locations of Child Safety Seat clinics and installation events - (800) 231-6145.
