Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 12 to 5 PM at Ceasar Chavez Elementary School, 6251 Jaguar Dr.
The purpose of this event is to showcase Southside culture in a way that is authentic and does not tokenize the members of this diverse community, which is not just Hispano or Mexican-(American), but also Indigenous and Native, Central and South American, and Anglo.
Additionally, this community event is the foundation for bringing together these diverse groups, to unify and mobilizing them to improve and strengthen that community they share. In that spirit, the planning and execution of this event includes a wide variety of groups that are working toward Equity in Santa Fe.
- Attendees should be encouraged to sign up as participants, volunteers, or monthly donors for groups like Earth Care, Chainbreaker, Somos Un Pueblo Unido, Poder Familiar, and Alas De Agua Grassroots Arts Collective.
- Service Providers are invited to table, with a bilingual representative, to provide information of the programs and services they are currently offering.
- Local teachers and school administrators are invited, as this event functions as a “meet & greet” for the families they service. They will be “showcased” by Earth Care and introduced to the audience in an effort to build stronger relationships between school staff and community.
But of course, the main event is about FUN!
Activities will include: a pozole cook-off, featuring Pozole recipes from different cultures, a live mural painting workshop, and easy family-centered games.
