Let’s celebrate our journey toward a Sustainable Santa Fe! On Wednesday night we approved a project that started two years ago to solarize City buildings, install energy-efficient fixtures, and modernize our streetlights in a way that will preserve our dark skies.
Here’s what this one project does: We will reduce our water use by 2 million gallons per year, reduce electricity use by 9 million kilowatt hours per year, and eliminate 7,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. We’ll pay for these environmental improvements by achieving utility savings of $1.3 million per year.
Fighting climate change. Conserving water. Cutting energy use. Saving taxpayer dollars. All in one project. That’s how Santa Fe leads the way on sustainability. Thanks to everyone in our community who helped make it a better project and to Public Works Director Regina Wheeler for her leadership.
