Veterans Day Celebrations, Reimagined - Virtual Celebration and City Closures

Due to public health concerns, the City of Santa will premier a Veteran’s Day tribute video on 11:11 AM on Wednesday, November 11th on the City’s Facebook page, thanking veterans from Santa Fe and across the nation for their service to our country. The virtual celebration is being held in lieu of the annual parade.  To view the tribute video on Veteran’s Day, please visit the City’s Facebook page on Wednesday morning at 11:11 AM. A recording will also be available on Youtube after the live broadcast.

On Wednesday, November 11th, all virtual administrative offices, city libraries, the Municipal Court, and recreation centers will be closed. Trash and recycling collection services will operate on a regular schedule. Residential customers will need to have their recycling and solid waste placed at curbside by 7 a.m. Bus and trails service will operate on a Saturday schedule. The Santa Fe Public Library will be closed for Curbside Pickup and drop box returns. All library locations will open return drop boxes on Thursday, November 12th at 9 a.m. and Curbside Pickup will resume at noon on Thursday as well.

Governing Body will host their regular meeting on Tuesday, November 10, instead of Wednesday, November 11 due to the holiday.

Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11th because of the 1918 Armistice that was the unofficial end to World War I, which was enacted in the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. This Veterans Day marks the 102th Anniversary of the truce.

Additonal Information

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will waive fees at many recreation sites on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of Americans who have served in the armed services.

The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to encourage Americans to visit their public lands. Veterans Day is the final fee-free day for 2020. The next fee-free day will be Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021.

Fees will be waived at Santa Fe National Forest sites that normally charge a day-use fee. Since many recreation sites are closed for the winter, visitors to the Santa Fe National Forest are encouraged to contact the appropriate ranger district office to determine which sites are open and will have fees waived.

If you plan to visit the Santa Fe National Forest on Veterans Day, know before you go and "be outdoor safe." Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when hiking, fishing or camping on the SFNF. In the interest of public health and safety, please follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance and comply with state public health orders to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Fire prevention is always a priority. Make sure you know if there are fire restrictions in place before visiting public lands.
