Santa Fe Police want to identify a man caught on tape forcing his young son to help him shoplift.
The suspect, described as a Hispanic man, about 5’9”, wearing a striped shirt, dark shorts and with possible tattoos on his right arm, is accused of stealing more than $700 in tablet-style notebooks (4 of them) from the Hastings store located at 542 N. Guadalupe.
The incident happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013.
Surveillance video shows the suspect enter the store with two adult women and four children (2 boys and 2 girls, approximate ages 3 -10yrs). The man picks out the tablets and then, according to management, requests the bathroom key. While in the bathroom, the suspect allegedly took the tablets out of their boxes and shoved them into a male child’s (about 6yrs old) backpack. The group then flees the store.
It is unclear on what involvement the women played in the heist.
The boy is believed to be the suspect’s son and his father faces larceny, shoplifting, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges.
