Suspect Arrested: Robbery that Injured Elderly Woman

Santa Fe Police Detectives arrested Ashley Richardson, 22, on robbery and larceny charges after she admitted to stealing an elderly woman’s purse in January.

The incident happened January, 17, 2013 at a grocery store at 3001 South Saint Francis Drive.  The victim, a 77-year-old female, says a woman came up behind her and snatched her purse just before 3 p.m. as she was about to enter the store. The victim was knocked over and fell, hitting her head on the pavement in the parking lot. She suffered a laceration near her right eye and was taken to the hospital. Upon arrival the victim was rushed into surgery for life-threatening complications from the injury. She has since recovered.

Police investigative techniques and witness statements determined Richardson was a suspect. Detectives tracked her to Dallas, TX where was recently arrested, expedited then interrogated. Richardson confessed to the crime Thursday, July 11, 2013.

She is being held in the Santa Fe County Jail on $10,000 cash/surety bond.
