Spanish Colonial Woodcarvings Removed for Restoration Work

The City of Santa Fe Arts Commission would like to inform the public that the seven traditional Spanish Colonial woodcarvings located in the Santa Fe River Park in front of El Castillo have temporarily been removed from display. The carvings, commissioned by local santero Jose Lucero in 2005, were removed earlier this summer to undergo major restoration work. Lucero will be performing the work which includes removal of existing rot, future rot abetment, patching and hardening of the wood, repainting and resealing the pieces, and reinstalling the pieces on new concrete bases in the park. The work is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

For more information, please contact the Arts Commission at 505-955-6707.
