Responding to urgent community concerns about reckless driving, speeding, drag racing, and accidents on the roadways of Santa Fe, the Police Department mounted Operation Quick Sand to crack down on this threat to public health and safety. The operation began April 9, 2021, and concluded on May 7, 2021.
Targeting locations around the city that are known for reckless driving, racing, and loud muffler complaints, the Police Department issued 140 traffic citations, 30 verbal warnings, and made 10 arrests during the operation.
As the spring and summer months arrive, and people become more mobile with the reduction of restrictions on gatherings and activities, the Police Department will continue to work with the community at large to identify, investigate, and hold accountable all those who make the choice to drive recklessly and without due regard for the safety of citizens on the roadways of the City of Santa Fe.
