The Santa Fe Police will kick off Operation “Slow & Quiet Phase II” on Friday, August 14, 2020. The second phase of the operation will run city-wide to reduce illegal muffler noise and deter unsafe driving. The overall goal of the operation is to improve the quality of life and increase safety in the City. Operation “Slow & Quiet Phase II” will run for a month and conclude on Friday, September 18th.
Captain Matthew Champlin said – “A variety of factors have played into the increased noise and speed on our streets. We continue to receive concerns from our residents and decided to launch a second phase of the operation. Given the success we had with the original, we are hopeful this will remind residents to keep noise at a respectful level and slow down. Thank you to our officers that continue to make these operations successful and work tirelessly to serve the community.”
Operation “Slow & Quiet Phase I” was in effect from June 24 to July 18. It focused on loud muffler noise, drag racing and all forms of dangerous driving largely associated with speeding and exhibition driving. During Phase I, the Police Department issued 477 traffic citations city-wide.
