Rental Assistance Program Information

Rental Assistance Programs

As of January 31, 2022

 

Bernalillo County (excludes Albuquerque)

  • visit https://www.bernco.gov/economic-development/rent/ , call (505) 468-1279, or email [bot protected email address]
  • eligibility:
    • reside outside of Albuquerque city limits and Tribal Lands, but within the county
    • COVID related income loss or qualified for unemployment benefits
    • less than 80% area median income for household
    • excludes all recipients of federally subsidized rent (e.g. Section 8, other vouchers, public housing)
    • proof of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (past due utility/rent notice, eviction notice, written attestation of unsafe/unhealthy living situations
  • provides assistance with for 3 months future rent in addition to past-due rent, limited to 18 months total of assistance

 

Catholic Charities

  • call (505) 724-4604 ONLY Mondays 8am-5pm, leave voicemail stating name and phone number
  • eligibility:
    • currently or at risk of experiencing homelessness
    • household income at or below 30% of median income for household size
  • provides up to 11 months of assistance for past due and future rent, case management and life skills education

 

City of Albuquerque

  • eligibility:
    • statement of how financially impacted by COVID
    • eviction notice or notice of non-payment of rent (or for utilities past due bill)
    • at or below 80% area median income

 

Emergency Rental Assistance Program

  • eligibility:
  • provides assistance for rent and utilities

 

Hopeworks

  • visit https://www.hopeworksnm.org/move-in-assistance-and-eviction-prevention-program/ , email [bot protected email address], or call  (505) 242-4399
  • eligibility:
    • diagnosed and documented serious mental illness or co-occuring substance use disorder
    • currently receiving behavioral health services
    • must complete application with assistance of behavioral health or social services provider
    • currently or at risk of experiencing homelessness
  • provides assistance for first month’s rent, damage deposit, application fees, rent, and utilities

 

Pueblo Emergency Rental Assistance Programs

  • general eligibility (some differences across programs):
    • enrolled tribal member
    • at or below 80% area median income
    • one or more household members financially impacted by COVID or qualified for unemployment benefits
    • at risk of homelessness or housing instability (past due rent/utility notice, eviction notice, unsafe/unhealthy living conditions)
    • most programs do NOT require residence on pueblo/reservation/nation (some exceptions)
  • provides assistance with past due and future rent/utilities
