Santa Fe Police would like the public’s help in solving a frightening New Year’s Eve armed robbery where one of the suspects wore a devil mask and gunshots were fired at the victim.
Just before 6:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Santa Fe Police responded to an armed robbery at the Dollar Mart located on the 4300 block of Airport Road. Two suspects, seen in surveillance video, entered the store, threatened an employee with guns and demanded money. They made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Suspect number one is described as a thin, muscular man who covered his face with a white bandana, sunglasses and sported a green beanie-type cap. The victim says he also wore dark gray pants, a black long sleeve shirt and black skeleton-print gloves. He carried a black handgun.
Suspect number two is described as a heavy-set male wearing a dark blue ‘Old Navy’ hooded sweatshirt and gray running pants. He wore a gold demon-like Halloween mask and was armed with a silver gun, possibly a revolver.
Surveillance video shows the men threaten the female employee. She says they shot one round into the ceiling because at first she didn’t believe they were going to rob her, and then they fled the store after she complied.
Investigators found two bullet holes inside the store including the one in the ceiling and another in the wall behind where the cashier stood during the robbery. Police believe it’s possible the victim was so startled she did not hear the second gunshot.
A third unidentified man was spotted driving the getaway vehicle a black, 1990’s model Dodge Dakota, extended-cab pickup truck with gray lines on the lower door panels. The truck has tinted windows and a loud exhaust.
If anyone spots a similar truck, the mask or knows who is responsible for the robbery, they’re asked to call Santa Fe Police at (505) 428-3710. Tipsters can remain anonymous. Crime Stoppers is also offering a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to arrests in this case. Crime Stoppers: 955-5050.
