As our students head back to school, Santa Fe Police Department’s Traffic Division will be out in full force monitoring school zones, ticketing speeders and ensuring pedestrians use designated crosswalks.
Police will deploy multiple resources including, radar speed guns, increased police presence and even the speed vans if necessary to catch speeding or aggressive drivers, those not wearing seat belts and individuals not using the proper drop off locations.
“We all need to do our part to ensure we start the school year off right,” said Santa Fe Police Chief Raymond Rael. “Pedestrian accidents in school zones are easy to avoid if we all just pay attention, prepare for the increased traffic and remain alert.”
Residents are reminded fines handed out in school zones are double the normal amount, and officers will have a zero tolerance policy in these areas. Warnings will not be issued.
