Midtown Weekly Update

Santa Fe, September 25, 2020 – The Midtown email distribution has been a significant tool used to keep our community updated on the status of the Midtown District development planning. After a proposed development team was selected in May 2020, the City hosted a series of public “Meet the Developer” meetings. The meetings are available to view on the Midtown YouTube Channel.  During this series the community was able to learn about the preliminary ideas submitted by the Santa Fe based real estate development and investment team. The team is led by two Dallas-based firms – KDC and Cienda Partners.  Individuals were able to submit questions for discussion and inclusion in the “Meet the Developer” series, which were used to further inform the developers about goals and aspirations as expressed by the Santa Fe community.
The development team has been conducting technical investigations and assessments, meetings with City Departments, as well as elected officials.  The development team has been running a SWOT analysis – Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats that will help guide the planning process, particularly the infrastructure to support the new development.  This has been an important time in the process for the development team to ground themselves in a deeper understanding of the project, run the SWOT analysis, and focus on our community needs.
The development team in the coming months will begin planning the next phase of the project, which focuses on Public Engagement. The Public Engagement commitment is being funded by the City and supported through a  contract with the UNM Design & Planning Assistance Center (DPAC). DPAC will lead a people-focused engagement process to establish community development principles, with a basis in equitable and sustainable development principles, that will inform and be incorporated into the future development of the site.
A lot has been happening as we continue to lay the essential groundwork required for this complex development.  Stay tuned and thanks for your ongoing support and patience.
