Mayor Coss Issues Statement on Doña Ana County Issuing Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

Statement from Mayor David Coss:

“History was made today in Doña Ana County. Congratulations to County Clerk Lynn Ellins and his staff, to the elected officials, and to all of the citizens of Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. The laws of man have taken an important step forward, but it is the laws of humanity and the inalienable rights of justice and equality that truly triumph.

I’m proud of the work the City of Santa Fe has done to advance the basic civil right of marriage equality. This is not a Northern New Mexico or Southern New Mexico issue; it's an issue for all New Mexicans and for all Americans. I am truly proud of New Mexico today; and of the steps taken towards treating all people equally under the law. This is what's right and it is vital to our progress as a society. Most of all, to the couples getting married, I would like to say: congratulations and best wishes.”
