Keep Santa Fe Beautiful Receives Innovation Award from Keep America Beautiful

Keep Santa Fe Beautiful has received an Innovation Award from Keep America Beautiful for its entryway sign on a highway median coming off of U.S. 84-285 on the city’s north side.

The Innovation Award -- the second national recognition of Keep Santa Fe Beautiful from KAB in as many months -- recognized KSFB for “innovation in overall concept and in unique execution.” The award is for cities with a population between 30,001 and 100,000.

Keep Santa Fe Beautiful and other local affiliate winners will be recognized at KAB’s national conference the week of Nov. 15, 2021, in Washington, D.C. Keep America Beautiful also will showcase award-winning local affiliate programs through its “Do Beautiful Things” affiliate webinar series on the KAB website.

“We are pleased that Keep America Beautiful has recognized the creativity and vision of Keep Santa Fe Beautiful for its entryway sign. It is a lasting gift to the city of Santa Fe, its residents, and visitors who are welcomed into Santa Fe every time they drive by the entryway sign,” said KSFB Executive Director Carol Branch. “The entryway sign has been a goal -- and dream -- of the Keep Santa Fe Beautiful Board of Directors for many years.”

“We are proud to honor the individuals and affiliates who continually accomplish the most innovative, creative, and inspirational work in their communities,” KAB noted in conferring the award. “Keep America Beautiful celebrates the achievements of forward-thinking affiliates and acknowledges those who bring new ideas to life . . . Our collective action champions environmentally healthy, socially connected, and economically-sound communities.”

Last month, Keep America Beautiful conferred President’s Circle recognition on Keep Santa Fe Beautiful for meeting KAB’s standards by calculating the affiliate’s cost/benefit ratio and administering initiatives to end littering, improve recycling, and beautify the Santa Fe community.

Partners with Keep Santa Fe Beautiful on the entryway sign include the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful program of the New Mexico Tourism Department, the city of Santa Fe Environmental Services Division, Babcock Construction and Sketchbook Studio, LLC, and proprietor George Lawrence, who designed the sign for Keep Santa Fe Beautiful.
