Julian Williams, Designer Of “Santa Fe Promise” Logo, Is A Santa Fe Success Story

Graduate Of Santa Fe University Art & Design in 2017

When the City of Santa went looking for a powerful logo to kick off its COVID protocol messaging, called “Santa Fe Promise,” they found the perfect talent in Julian Williams, a designer working half-a world away, with Santa Fe ties.

Julian Williams, a Designer with “Ideas and People”, is a 2017 graduate of the Santa Fe University of Art & Design. He is currently based in Amsterdam and works on projects in both Europe and the U.S.

Locally Julian works on projects for the non-profit Cooking With Kids, La Fonda on the Plaza and the Simms Space in Albuquerque. Nationally and internationally he has worked on projects for Nike and Tommy Hilfiger. For our Santa Fe Promise campaign, which he did for no charge, he incorporated hearts and a star at the center of a logo that features the campaign’s 3 key words-- Safe, Open, Together, or in Spanish, Seguro, Abierto, Juntos.

“Julian is a global talent with truly local roots,” said Mayor Webber. “His brilliant graphic contribution to the Santa Fe Promise expresses the heart and soul of our city. I’m very grateful to Julian and Bob (Borden) for this unifying logo and the values it represents."

Bob Borden, Founder and CEO “Ideas And People,” said it was an honor to work on this project for Santa Fe.  “I knew Julian would be the right team member for the project. He is a young and innovative designer that designs in a fresh and bold manner, which was exactly what the project needed.”

Posters and rack cards featuring this logo and messaging are being distributed to hundreds of Santa Fe hotels, restaurants and retailers.  Face coverings are mandatory in Santa Fe, and are required for anyone entering a restaurant, hotel or place of business. It’s what we do to keep each other safe, and that’s why we are giving away thousands of masks free at various visitor centers, libraries, hotels and retail around the City (details below).

We are reminding residents, businesses and visitors that this basic code of conduct is the heart of the Santa Fe Promise:

  • I promise to act as if I carry the coronavirus.
  • I promise to maintain social distancing of at least six feet.
  • I promise to wear a face covering, wash my hands, use sanitizer.
  • I promise to buy from local businesses that also make this promise.
  • I promise to practice patience, compassion, empathy, connection, respect and love.

We are also encouraging businesses to familiarize themselves with COVID Safe Practices and to let their customers know they’re looking out for them, and for their employees. So far more than 700 businesses have signed up to be Santa Fe Safe.
