I Will Act on Climate Change Bus Tour Stops in Santa Fe Today

focusing on wildfires and the impact on the local economy. Ron Curry, Administrator for EPA’s South Central Region spoke as well as Santa Fe Mayor David Coss, Santa Fe Fire Chief Erik Litzenberg, Executive Director and President of New Energy Economy Mariel Nanasi, and local business owners. The I Will Act on Climate Change Bus Tour is part of President Obama’s Climate Change Action Plan to protect our environment for future generations.

“Here in Santa Fe the impacts of climate change are a visible reality,” said Mayor David Coss. “Extreme weather conditions such as droughts, wild fires, heat waves, and recent flooding have hurt not only our environment but also our economy.”

“The reality of wildland fire is that it has an impact on the local economy for many reasons. And I submit that it is a good time for our policies and behaviors as a culture and a community to keep up with these new paradigms,” said Santa Fe Fire Chief Erik Litzenberg.

“Everyone needs to act on climate and understand the impacts climate has on their lives. In Santa Fe, you don't have to look far to find an example of the impacts from wildfires to drought. There are so many ways the community - one person at a time can act on climate and help us achieve the goals outlined in the President's Plan on Climate,” said Ron Curry Environmental Protection Agency South Central Administrator.
