Santa Fe Joins More than 200 Cities Worldwide to Host
Global Entrepreneurship Week
Workshops, Talks and Panels Offered Across the City of Santa Fe
Few small cities can match Santa Fe’s unique combination of multiculturalism and entrepreneurship, and few city economic development teams put the kind of focus on fostering and growing local businesses that the City of Santa Fe’s Office of Economic Development does— and that makes Santa Fe a natural fit to host Global Entrepreneurship Week 2019.
GEW is an expanding network of tens of thousands of events that take place around the world for a single week in November, with the common goal of building inclusive ecosystems and tearing down barriers to entrepreneurship. In Santa Fe, events range from workshops on social media to investor office hours to money labs, maker space tours, meet-and-greets, expert panels, and more. Some of the events are designed specifically for Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs.
While the growth and health of Santa Fe’s growing entrepreneurial community is a key driver for the City in sponsoring GEW, City of Santa Fe Economic Development Director Rich Brown says it’s also about leveling the playing field of opportunity.
“We’re approaching this from a place of equity,” says Brown. “We want everyone in Santa Fe, including our immigrant communities, to have access to the resources and support they need to be successful. And we want our economy to be diverse and resilient”
Santa Fe Global Entrepreneurship Week 2019 kicks off on Monday, November 18 with Investor Office Hours with the NM Angels from 10am-12pm at the Santa Fe Business Incubator, followed by more than 15 events to choose from throughout the week until it concludes on Saturday, November 23 with a Make Your Own Website workshop at the Southside Library—in English from 11am-1pm, and in Spanish from 2-4pm.

The City of Santa Fe is invested in positioning itself as a vibrant hub for tech, science, and innovation. Brown says those efforts not only compliment the City’s identity as an arts, film, and culture hub, but also augment it.
“Santa Fe is a unique city, sandwiched between a rich, deep history and a fast-approaching future—and we want the City to be ready for that future,” says Brown. “Right now there’s a lot of entrepreneurial energy here. We think entrepreneurship is a critical investment to keep our young people in Santa Fe—and thriving.”
