News & Announcements
As the situation with COVID-19 evolves our Environmental Services Department has some important updates for Santa Fe residents and businesses. During this time ESD asks that residents abide by the following instructions for everyone’s safety:
- Do NOT place latex gloves, face masks, tissues, and other biohazardous materials in your blue recycling cart. These items are NOT recyclable and pose a serious health and safety hazard for the employees operating the BuRRT recycling facility.
- Gloves, masks, tissues and other such items must be securely bagged and placed in your green trash cart. Make sure the bags are tied properly and will remain closed upon collection.
- Do NOT approach collections operators while they are on your route. If you have a question or a service issue, please call or email ESD customer service at (505) 955-2200 or [bot protected email address]
Effective immediately, ESD is also temporarily suspending “Bag Tag” collections of trash outside the cart. To avoid potential contact with biohazardous material, collections operators have been instructed NOT to exit vehicles to hand-collect extra trash or pick up litter under any circumstances. Residents should save any additional trash that does not fit in the cart for their next collection day.
At this time, all residential and commercial collections will continue as scheduled. ESD will monitor the COVID-19 situation as it develops and will modify operations if and when necessary for the safety of residents and drivers alike. Further updates will be distributed via press release, social media and updates on the City of Santa Fe website.
