City crews are working to fix a damaged 12 inch water main that ruptured just before 1 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Camino Sierra Vista and Onate Place.
At this time water has been shut off in the area. About 50 homes along Camino Sierra Vista in between Salazar Street and Alarid Street are affected.
160 homes are also without power after it was turned off while PNM crews assess the structural integrity of a nearby electric pole. PNM expects power to be restored quickly and will replace the pole if necessary.
New Mexico Gas Company is also on scene to ensure their systems are fully functional.
The intersection will remain closed as city crews fix the leak and the road. Traffic is being diverted.
The operation is a joint effort between City Water Division, Public Utilities Department, Public Works, City Streets, Office of the Emergency Manager, Fire and Police Departments.
Aged infrastructure is likely the cause of the leak.
Repairs are expected to be complete in about 12 hours.
