City Supporting Federal Employees with Resources, Information During Shutdown

Santa Fe, NM – The City of Santa Fe has a message for federal employees affected by the shutdown: We know the shutdown is creating hardship for federal workers and their families—and we’re here to work with you, not add to the stress.

There are several direct and indirect resources and services available to our federal worker families to ease the stress:

Water Service Continuation:

Our Public Utilities Department is standing by to talk to any federal employee customers and make arrangements to ensure that water service is not at risk of being disconnected during the shutdown.

Please call us, at (505) 955-4333, and we will work with you!

Quality After-School Care for Children Ages 6 to 18:

The Community Service Department’s Monica Roybal Youth Center and the Carlos Ortega Teen Center will provide after school and in-service day programming free of charge. If you are able to transport your child or teen from school to 737 Agua Fria Monday through Friday, we will provide a snack, homework assistance and daily recreational and arts activities.

Please contact Edith Martinez at 505-955-6568 for more information.

Free Access to the Genoveva Chavez Center:

Anyone showing a valid federal worker ID will be admitted without charge to the Chavez Center for exercise, recreation, swimming, or ice-skating.

Daily Meals to Adults 60 and Older:

Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following Senior Centers:

  • Mary Esther Gonzales (MEG), 1121 Alto Street
  • Pasatiempo, 664 Alta Vista St.
  • Ventana de Vida, 1500 Pacheco St.
  • Luisa Street, 1500 Luisa St.

If you need transportation to the Centers, call 955-4700, 24 hours in advance.

Groceries for All:

On Thursday mornings, beginning at 6 am and continuing until all bags are distributed (no later than 9 am, often earlier), grocery bags of food are given without charge to those in need who enter Feeding Santa Fe’s drive-thru at the loading dock at the rear of the building. There are no forms to fill out, no questions asked. Feeding Santa Fe’s location is 1222 Siler Road.
