January 12, 2022 -- The City of Santa Fe seeks candidates for its Independent Citizens’ Redistricting Commission (ICRC). For five of the seven positions, interested individuals must be both residents and registered voters of the city. Two positions, those reserved for a statistician and geographer or cartographer, allow for a Santa Fe County resident to be appointed, but only if a City resident does not apply. Individuals with knowledge in areas such as demographics, statistics, the history, geography, governmental structure and community dynamics of the City of Santa Fe are encouraged to apply for one or more of the following positions on the commission:

1.    One resident of City Council District 1;

2.    One resident of City Council District 2;

3.    One resident of City Council District 3;

4.    One resident of City Council District 4;

5.    One resident of the City of Santa Fe, who is a statistician (except that if a city resident is not available, then a resident of Santa Fe County may be appointed);

6.    One resident of the city of Santa Fe, who is either a geographer or cartographer (except that if a city resident is not available, then a resident of Santa Fe County may be appointed); and

7.    One member-at-large who is a resident of the City of Santa Fe.

The Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission was established by legislation adopted in 2014 and is governed by Section 6-18 of the City Code. The Ordinance requires the Commission to review and revise the City of Santa Fe district boundaries at least every 10 years.

Interested residents may apply for a seat on the ICRC by sending an email to Kristine Mihelcic, Community Engagement Department Director and City Clerk, [bot protected email address], with the attached application (click to access).
