News & Announcements
The City of Santa Fe increased in population by 13,200 to 82,000 residents and gained 4,100 acres on January 1, 2014 when the latest phase of annexation officially went into effect. The discussion about annexation started in earnest in 2006 and took years of work and numerous agreements between the City and County. An initial phase of annexation was completed in 2009 and a final phase is scheduled for some time within the next five years.
Here are a few key items to remember for newly annexed businesses and residents
Businesses in the newly annexed areas must now:
· Charge City of Santa Fe’s Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) rate of 8.1875% for goods and services;
· Pay employees the City’s minimum or living wage currently set at $10.51 per hour and estimated to increase approximately 1.3% or about 14 cents on March 1, 2014. The final figure for the increase will be confirmed later this month/mid-January, when the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers for 2013.
Residents who are registered voters in the newly annexed areas will be able to vote in the upcoming City Election on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Those who are eligible and not already registered to vote can register until 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Santa Fe County Board of Elections.
