105 Santa Feans on Track to Becoming U.S. Citizens
Tuesday, September 17, communities across the country are celebrating National Citizenship Day. One year ago the City of Santa Fe joined a network of 86 cities and counties across the country to encourage eligible residents and facilitate the process of becoming a U.S. citizen.
Somos Un Pueblo Unido, Santa Fe City officials including Mayor Alan Webber, and other community partners will celebrate the first anniversary of Citizenship Now!, a local campaign aimed at helping eligible immigrant residents become U.S citizens, build security for their families and have a stronger political voice about the issues that impact their daily lives.
So far, 105 Santa Feans are on the path to citizenship through the program.
When: Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Where: Santa Fe Convention Center Patio (201 W. Marcy St.)
What: Reception and awards ceremony in honor of the first anniversary of Citizenship Now!, a community-based naturalization program. Light snacks and Mariachi music will be a part of the program.
Who: Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber, City Councilor Renee Villarreal, and representatives from Somos Un Pueblo Unido including program participants who will take their citizenship oaths later this week.
Other community partners who will be present include: Guadalupe Credit Union, Santa Fe Area Homebuilders Association, Adelante, the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, Northern New Mexico Central Labor Council, Santa Fe Public Library, and the Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe.
