June of 2013 saw 126 overall burglaries and just 43 residential burglaries. Compare that to June of last year when there were 175 overall burglaries and nearly double the number of residential burglaries at 83.

“We are on pace to hit a record low number of burglaries this year,” said Santa Fe Police Chief Raymond Rael. “My officers are committed to seeing these numbers drop even more, and we are finding new ways to prevent property crimes and further protect the community each and every day.”

Besides ‘Operation Full Court Press’, implemented in June of 2012, the department is currently tracking hot spots and mapping targeted areas on a weekly basis. This allows officers to implement close patrols in those neighborhoods and increases the likelihood of catching criminals red-handed.

The department is also informing the public of the city’s top ten most wanted criminals each month and a repeat offender every week. The purpose is to make the community familiar with those who are committing the crimes.

The Most Wanted List and Offender of the Week can be found on the department’s Facebook page.
