The Santa Fe Police Department, in an effort to further curb crime, would like the community become familiar with Benny Mendiola, 46, who is was arrested Tuesday, July 16, 2013 for shoplifting nearly $10,000 of copper wire from Home Depot.
Online court records show Mendiola has been arrested 23 times since 2002. He has a record of shoplifting, aggravated assault, battery and drug possession. Recently Mendiola has been arrested on average about four times each year starting in 2009.
“This is the type of person we want to keep off the streets and behind bars,” Santa Fe Police Chief Raymond Rael said. “He proves over and over again he cannot be trusted in our community.”
Mendiola’s most recent charges include shoplifting and three counts of failure to appear. He is being held in the Santa Fe County Jail on a total of $6,900
