One of Santa Fe’s most beloved holiday traditions is the Christmas Eve Farolito Walk, which lights up the hearts and souls of thousands who promenade the famous path on Christmas Eve. The event is from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the historic neighborhood of Canyon Road and Acequia Madre.
The neighborhood will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Barricades will be set up beginning at 5:30 p.m. and streets will officially close at 6:00 p.m. For those who cannot walk and must tour the neighborhood by car the streets will reopen after 9:00 p.m. for regular operation.
In preparation for the Farolito Walk, beginning at 5:30 p.m. City of Santa Fe Police and Fire personnel will allow access to residents and business owners only. Passes will not be issued to residents. We urge residents and business owners to plan ahead and have guests and employees arrive before 6:00 p.m. Emergency vehicles ONLY will be allowed access to the area between 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Thousands of people attend the annual Christmas Eve Farolito Walk and the City of Santa Fe is taking every precaution to protect and ensure the safety of all participants.
A portable restroom will be available at the Acequia Madre School parking lot.
A 20 foot fire lane must be maintained during the street closure. The Fire Department must have clear passage on all streets for emergency vehicles.
Residents participating in event: please monitor farolitos and luminarias (bonfires); keep them out of the streets and make sure they are completely extinguished before you retire for the night. Please clean up the ashes on Christmas morning, and please help by cleaning up any litter left by visitors.
Santa Fe Trails Will Provide Free Bus Service for the Canyon Road Farolito Walk. Passengers can pick up the free bus service from Santa Fe Place Mall and the South Capitol Rail Runner Station and be transported to Canyon Road at Paseo de Peralta for the Canyon Road Farolito Walk. Hours of free service are from 5:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2013. Buses marked “special” will pick-up and drop-off continuously during this period.
