ALERT: Suspicious Person

Santa Fe Police want the community to be aware of a suspicious person claiming to be an agent with the U.S. Marshals Service.

Around 1 p.m. officers responded to the First National Bank on the 1600 Block of Hospital Drive after a manager called 911 reporting unusual activity. The employee claimed a newer-model, white Ford Edge was parked in the bank’s parking lot for an alarming amount of time. The manager went outside to ask the driver if he needed help and that’s when she says he flashed a badge, claimed to be with the U.S. Marshal’s Service then drove away.

SFPD confirmed the U.S. Marshal’s Service does not have anyone working a case in the area. Officers also showed the manager what an actual U.S. Marshal’s badge looks like and she stated the man’s was not authentic.

The individuals are not currently accused of a crime, but impersonating a law enforcement officer is illegal.

The man is described as Hispanic with dark hair and a goatee. He had a female passenger in the car who is also described as Hispanic with black hair. It was pulled back into a pony tail.

Police are simply warning the public to be on the lookout for the couple and beware they are not with affiliated with the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The couple has not been located.

Anyone who notices similar or any other suspicious activity is asked to call SFPD at (505) 428-3710.
