Santa Fe Police Detectives are trying to identify a person of interest in a bizarre case where the victim was left with severe lacerations on his head and no memory of how he was attacked.
The incident happened Friday, May 9th likely after 8 p.m. The victim, a 50 year old Caucasian man, was found by a security guard bleeding and near death the following morning, May 10th, in an alley at 2428 Cerrillos Road.
It is unclear how the victim sustained the lacerations. He was taken to the hospital and operated on immediately. He has been released after receiving more than 30 stiches and blood transfusions. The victim is expected to fully recover, besides the loss of his short term memory.
Surveillance video shows the victim enter a grocery store on 2308 Cerrillos Road with an unidentified man sometime between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. 5/9/13. The victim stated he remembered planning to consume alcohol with this person, but does not know who he is. The victim claims he does not remember anything after leaving the store.
Police are calling the man in the video a person of interest. He is seen wearing a checkered blue and grey jacket and is believed to be of Native American descent, with a stalky build and salt and pepper hair.
The weapon used in the attack is unknown.
A suspect could face aggravated assault or even attempted murder charges.
Police are not releasing the victim’s identity.
