2017 Youth Summit Report Is Out Today - Recap Video

SANTA FE – Earier this summer, young Santa Feans from different neighborhoods, socioeconomic backgrounds, and schools came together to plan and carry out a one-day summit on issues and challenges facing young people in the community.

Supported this year by Eagle Rock Professional Development – a national leader in youth advocacy – and Americorps VISTA program, the summit was planned by a group of 20 young Santa Feans identified as leaders in their schools or communities, and engaged 300 youth in active conversation about the community.

Mayor Javier Gonzales, who launched the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board in 2015 to directly engage young leaders in growing Santa Fe young, said, “Every day I’m inspired by the youth in our community. Students from all over our community came together to tell us what we could do to help them thrive, and every year they’ve helped us shape our roadmap for supporting them.”

At the direction of the youth leaders, the summit focused on priorities including bullying, financial stress, community activities, homeless youth, job opportunity, immigration, and behavioral health/substance abuse.

Today the City of Santa Fe is releasing the video recap of the summit as well as the written report, which describes the planning process and the summit and includes Call to Action plans developed by youth in each strategic area of importance.
