Update Regarding Permitting Operations
Santa Fe, March 31, 2020—The City of Santa Fe continues its efforts to deliver City services while minimizing interpersonal contact. We are continuing service in every way possible and working as quickly as possible to implement permitting of all types with respect for the current public health restrictions and guidelines. Please be aware of potential delays in service due to modified business operations and procedures.
Land Use continues to issue approved permits by appointment only. Land Use Staff will contact applicants to arrange for permit issuance and pick-up in the order applications were originally received. We ask that applicants do not come to City Hall without a scheduled appointment. We are limiting access to the Permitting Lobby in an effort to comply with current state-wide restrictions on gathering.

Online permitting of limited building types will be available starting today.
Please visit https://santafenm-energovpub.tylerhost.net/Apps/selfservice#/home to create a Customer Self Service (CSS) profile and apply for building permits. Once the permit is issued, the permit for signature, permit board and approved documents will appear in your CSS account. The permit must be signed and emailed to [bot protected email address] prior to starting construction. In the first round of implementation, the following permit types will be available through CSS*:

PERMITS FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY
-Trade permits needed for emergency work without a permit already approved by Bobby Padilla under Emergency Inspections. This includes work requiring inspection prior to service restoration due to gas leaks, electrical outages, sewer lines, accidents causing structural or water damage that threatens life safety, mold remediation, roof repairs from severe leaks causing damage that would require a permit to repair, or similarly severe incident.
-Trade permits related to healthcare.
-Trade permits for Mechanical/Plumbing and Electrical work including equipment failure needing immediate replacement to restore critical service or protect life safety, but that is not creating an imminent danger. (Work to remedy dangerous conditions is covered under Emergency Inspections without a permit requiring subsequent application permit and final, already implemented on March 24th.)
-Permits for roof repair work meeting conditions that require a permit, and with damage not causing imminent danger to life safety or property.
-Permits for Structural/Infrastructure repairs needed to address damage that threatens structural integrity of a building or system.

do I need a construction permit?
Construction Permits are required for most types of proposed work. Permits are not required for interior and exterior painting of residential structures, interior painting of commercial structures, minor landscaping, carpeting, tiling, cabinetry, counter tops, and exterior decks under 200 square feet if not attached to a structure. Permits are required for exterior business signs, roofing and re-roofing, window replacement, all storage sheds, solar panels, new and replacement mechanical equipment, re-stuccoing, driveway construction, and for the placement of manufactured homes. Work on the exterior of structures within the City's Historic Districts must be pre-approved by the Historic Preservation Division. Most simple maintenance and repair work in an Historic District will not require a construction permit.
how do i submit a construction permit application?
At present the Building Permit Division is not equipped to accept Construction Permit applications electronically. All applications must be submitted in hard copy to the Building Permit Division. To download a standard permit application click here. To download an application for a re-roofing permit click here. Four (4) complete sets of construction drawings must be submitted for residential projects and six (6) sets for commercial projects. Secondary permits for electrical, mechanical and plumbing work can usually be submitted without accompanying construction drawings (equipment cut-sheets may be required).
