News & Announcements
In March 2016, the City of Santa Fe launched a community-wide effort to shape the cultural future of our city. Culture Connects Santa Fe was embraced by the City Council, City of Santa Fe Arts Commission, members of the community working group and, most importantly, the community.
Dr. Estevan Rael-Gálvez of Rael-Gálvez & Associates was selected to lead the process of mapping and assessing our community’s abundant cultural assets. Together with the Working Group and City staff, he designed an inclusive engagement process that yielded important insights into our community’s cultural values, hopes and perceptions.
After input from more than 2,000 individuals in-person, including 700 survey responses, and a series of successful public engagement events and meetings, this process has resulted in “Culture Connects Santa Fe: A Cultural Cartography,” which illuminates this shared belief that culture can connect our community.
“The level of public engagement in pulling this important plan together has been wonderful, and that’s been critical to delivering a stronger finished product that this city can be proud of,” said Mayor Javier M. Gonzales. He added, “Our culture defines our community, and our community’s success, so mapping a future that is sustainable, accessible, and a part of every Santa Fean’s life is so important.”
The public is invited to a free unveiling presentation on Thursday, January 12th from 5:30 to 7 PM at the Learning Center of Meow Wolf, 1352 Rufina Circle. Mayor Javier M. Gonzales, Dr. Rael-Gálvez, JoAnn Balzer and members of the working group, and Debra Garcia y Griego, Arts Commission Director, will share the results and recommendations that map Santa Fe’s cultural future.
