The City Manager is appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council to manage the city's wide range of operations including:
City Manager Robert P. Romero
Romero, a licensed Professional Engineer, has served in the position of City Manager since 2010. He was first hired by the city in 2000 as the Engineering Division Director and was later promoted to Public Works Department Director.
Prior to joining the city of Santa Fe, Romero worked 12 years at the New Mexico Highway and Transportation Department in several engineering capacities. He worked on many high-profile projects such as the US 84/285 Corridor Improvement project between Santa Fe and Pojoaque, the Big I renovations in Albuquerque and many other major urban projects. Romero was instrumental in developing and implementing innovations that helped bring projects in on time and under budget.
Romero's leadership style includes leadership by example along with consistent citywide staff training on Customer Service, Transparency and Accountability.
Education
Romero earned a B.S. with Honors in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University.
