Water

We all use water in many ways - drinking, bathing and watering our lawns - but often forget that water is a limited resource. Extreme drought conditions over the past several years in Northern New Mexico have highlighted the need to enhance Santa Fe’s capacity to provide water today and plan for the future.

The City of Santa Fe is aggressively planning and implementing comprehensive water resource management policies to meet Santa Fe’s current and long-term water needs. These efforts include vigorous conservation measures and the development of a diverse portfolio of water supply sources.

Water Conservation

The Santa Fe City Council has adopted changes to the ordinance that regulates water use in the City of Santa Fe.

These changes include:

  • Adoption of permanent conservation measures
  • Revision of the rate structure
  • Replacement of numeric emergency stages with color-coded stages
