Nominations for the 2013 Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts are currently being accepted. The deadline for receipt of nominations is Friday, May 31, 2013 at 5 PM.

The Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts recognize the outstanding contributions that individuals, organizations and businesses have made to the Santa Fe arts community. Any member of the public may nominate an artist, writer, performer, philanthropist, organization or business for consideration. Nominees should have a demonstrated, sustained commitment to the Santa Fe arts community with a lasting impact. Young artists who have demonstrated artistic excellence and extraordinary commitment to their artist pursuits may be nominated for the Melissa Engestrom Youth Arts Award.

Mayor Coss will present selected recipients with their awards at a dinner on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

The Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts were started in 1989 as a means of acknowledging living individuals, organizations and corporations that have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Santa Fe. Annually, the city seeks nominations of individuals or organizations by the public. A dinner held in late October or early November is an opportunity for the Mayor, the city, and the community to honor the individuals and organizations selected to receive the award that year.

A special component of the annual Mayor’s Awards is the honoring of a young artist with presentation of the Melissa Engestrom Youth Artist Award. This unique award acknowledges the outstanding commitment of a young person to their art form and the community.  
Current Commission members and recipients of the Governor's Awards for Excellence in the Arts within the last five years are ineligible.  Please note that there is no need to submit multiple nominations for one person or organization.  One thorough nomination will ensure consideration by the selection committee.

Over its 20-year history, the Mayor's Awards have honored many outstanding individuals, organizations, and corporations for their work in visual, performing and literary arts, as well as for arts education and philanthropic work.

The Melissa Engestrom Youth Artist Award has been given to a variety of young people with a passionate and blossoming commitment to their art form.
