The City of Santa Fe Arts Commission believes that art must be part of the educational lives of young people and should be infused in public schools' curriculum.

ArtWorks was initiated to make the arts personally meaningful to children and elementary school teachers through an integrated program of arts-making, viewing live performances and exhibitions, and achieving understanding through inquiry and reflection.

With the Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools, we are bringing community resources together to integrate arts education in elementary classrooms through professional development for teachers and collaborative programming in elementary classrooms.

Educators that participate in the annual Summer Arts Institute are eligible to have teaching artists aid them in implementing classroom workshops focused on a 'live' experience with a work of art.

ArtWorks promotes:

• Active Engagement in learning
• Attention to individual differences in learning styles
• Selfesteem and self-empowerment through pride based on achievement
• Productive social relationships 
• Student involvement in authorship of their work, not just consumption of others' products

The goals of ArtWorks are to:

• Advocate for integrated arts education in the public schools
• Offer professional development to teachers
• Provide school-year programming for students
