The City of Santa Fe Arts Commission provides leadership by and for city government in supporting arts and cultural affairs and recommends city programs and policies that develop and promote artistic excellence in the community. To accomplish this purpose, the Arts Commission recommends awards to arts organizations, initiates innovative programming in the community, and provides technical assistance to individuals and organizations.

Role of the Arts Commission
The role of the Arts Commission is to:
  • Survey and assess the needs of the arts in Santa Fe;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of legislation, policies, and programs;
  • Encourage the use of local resources for the development and support of the arts;
  • Receive grants;
  • Advise city officials on purchasing artworks that will enhance municipal property;
  • Recommend the allocation of the Lodgers' Tax for nonprofit arts activities; and 
  • Counsel city officials regarding other arts-related activities.

The goals of the Arts Commission are:

Goal #1:    Community-wide Involvement in the Arts

Maintain and market a range of programs and services that engage the community as a whole, benefit artists of all career stages, and activate local arts and cultural groups.


Goal #2:    Arts and Cultural Sustainability


Promote opportunities, programming and practices that emphasize generating long-term sustainability for Santa Fe’s arts and cultural resources.


Goal #3:    Maintain Organizational Effectiveness


Preserve the quality of current programs and services within available financial and human resources, while building capacity to meet future needs and growth.
