City Councilor Rebecca Wurzburger was first elected to the Governing Body in 2002, and is serving her third term, representing District 2.
Councilor Wurzburger serves as Mayor Pro Tem and chairs the following committees:
- Public Works/CIP and Land Use Committee
- City Business and Quality of Life Committee
- Community Development Commission
Previously she chaired the Buckman Direct Diversion Board, the Regional Planning Authority, Finance, and Public Utilities Committees.
Councilor Wurzburger has consistently demonstrated her commitment to creating a sustainable future for all Santa Feans through her innovative work in affordable housing, economic development, building a sustainable and safe water supply and creating solutions to regional problems. Her economic development priorities included the purchase of the former College of Santa Fe, the Shoot Santa Fe Film Initiative, and the creation of an Asia Working Group to develop foreign direct investment and tourism in Santa Fe. The latter is a result of her diligent work to promote Santa Fe worldwide as a creative city, commencing with the successful designation of Santa Fe as the first U. S. city to be admitted to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Councilor Wurzburger has long held an active interest in her city and community, and has held positions on, and founded several distinguished community boards, which include: founding board member of Cornerstones Community Partnership, and she co-founded Santa Fe’s Habitat for Humanity Women Build Program. She won the 17th Annual Governor’s Award for Outstanding Women in New Mexico.
Education & Experience
Councilor Wurzburger holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and has over 30 years experience in strategic planning and managing complex projects at local state and national levels.
Her many years of active civic involvement throughout northern New Mexico have demonstrated her outstanding abilities to work in different communities and with different cultural perspectives.
