Affordable Housing Trust Fund
Overview
Housing prices continue to climb faster than the median income. As a result, there has been a recent movement of residents from Santa Fe to the surrounding areas in search of more affordable housing.

The purpose of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund is to curb this problem by encouraging projects that increase the supply of affordable housing for low to moderate-income residents of Santa Fe.

Delegation of Funds
For the community of Santa Fe, increasing ownership opportunities is the core component of the affordable housing effort. To that end, at least 50 percent of the annual funding from the Housing Trust Fund is targeted to increase ownership.

Other funds may be used to meet community housing priorities that are established and approved every two years by the Governing Body.

Repayment of funds issued as loans will be lent out for other affordable housing programs and projects in Santa Fe.

Housing Trust Fund Projects

The Housing Trust Fund will make loans available for the following types of affordable housing projects:

  • Homeownership assistance
  • Development and construction of new affordable housing
  • Preservation of existing affordable housing
  • Conversion of existing housing to an affordable housing unit
  • Retaining an existing affordable unit, rental development, or other special interest project
  • Acquisition and rehabilitation of existing housing
  • Capitalizing on affordable-housing, revolving loan funds that are operated by non-profit housing organizations
  • Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) that are city owned and used for affordable housing
