DWI Program
DWI Vehicle Forfeiture Program
In 2009 the Santa Fe Police Department along with the City of Santa Fe implemented Ordinance 24-9 to reduce habitual DWI (“Driving While under the Influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs”) offenders. In turn, they began seizing and impounding vehicles deemed as a public nuisance for safety. The Santa Fe Police Department currently seizes vehicles on the first offense for DWI or subsequent, as well as drivers arrested for driving while their license to do so has been revoked due to a prior DWI arrest or conviction. If a vehicle is seized for a DWI or a revoked license the owner must follow the instructions given pertaining to the DWI Vehicle Forfeiture Program form and contact 505-955-5042 to set up an appointment for items, vehicle removal, or request a hearing.

Ignition Interlock
The City of Santa Fe Police Department does not endorse any ignition interlock provider. Each company sets its own price and has differing policies. Each company has agreed to follow the interlock agreement requirements for the City of Santa Fe set forth in City of Santa Fe Ordinance 2012-9 and installs the interlock in the Santa Fe Police Department's impound lot on Camino Entrada.

Classes are the first three consecutive Saturdays of each month. You must attend all three classes in order to complete the Santa Fe DWI School.
Should you miss a session or fail to comply with the sentencing, you must return to the court and to the Judge who sentenced you, and obtain a new referral and then re-register for another three sessions of DWI School. The re-enrollment fee is $50.
Once again, to register, even if it is a re-registration, you must contact Shelley Abeyta 505-955-5006 to schedule an appointment to attend the next classes scheduled.
If you are unable to register by the date stated on your court sentencing nor have the $175 enrollment fee, you must see the Judge who sentenced you to get an extension on that date.
