Southwest Activity Node Park (SWAN Park) - Master Plan
Project Information
The Southwest Activity Node Park (SWAN Park) is a new 98-acre park and open space in the City of Santa Fe located on the south side of town within the Tierra Contenta subdivision. On open space east of NM 599 and south of Jaguar Road, the park will be accessible from NM 599 once the new interchange at Jaguar and NM 599 has been constructed.
The SWAN Park Master Plan was prepared by a local design firm, Design Office (with subconsultants Wilson & Company and Wenk + Associates) in coordination with the City.
Public Involvement
Extensive public input from local residents, concerned citizens, organized sports groups, and the community at large helped guide the park program and the final Master Plan design. During the programming phase, an online survery (with 816 responses) helped identify community needs and concerns and established the public's vision for the future park. During the planning phase, a series of three public meetings at key points in the process (average attendance 80 people/meeting) provided the community with opportunities to give input and guide the direction of the final plan.
The Park Master Plan
The SWAN Park Master Plan provides a wide range of active and passive recreational opportunities for the park's adjacent neighborhoods and for the community at large. Largely organized within approx. 40 acres of developable park area along the arroyo, the park will contain diverse areas including multipurpose play fields (both artificial turf and grass), playgrounds, a skate park/plaza, tennis courts, a restroom/maintenance building, a festival lawn, etc. (see SWAN Park Master Plan document links below). The efficient placement of these uses, interconnected with pathways and vehicular access, allows for the preservation and enhancement of the hillsides and drainageways that are a unique asset to the site.
