The Santa Fe Sister Cities Program
Started during the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the mission of the Sister Cities program is to “promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, & cooperation — one individual, one community at a time”.
The Santa Fe Sister Cities Program consists of a Mayor-appointed and City Council-approved Sister Cities Advisory Committee and seven Sister City relationships. Santa Fe is a member of Sister Cities International and has existing Sister City relationships with:
Bukhara, Uzbekistan
Parral, Mexico
Santa Fe de la Vega, Granada, Spain
Sorrento, Italy
Tsuyama, Japan
Holguin, Cuba
Zhang Jia Jie, Hunan Province, The People’s Republic of China.
Livingstone, Zambia
Although "Sister Cities" is the commonly used term in the United States, some U.S. cities have formed "Friendship City" relationships. Friendships Cities in the United States sometimes refer to a partnership this is slightly limited in scope. The Santa Fe Sister Cities first and newest Friendship City is Nevsehir, Turkey. An agreement was signed between the two cities on Jaunary 31, 2012 in the City Council Chambers.
