Firefighter Cadet Academy

The Cadet Academy consists of a 16-week, structured paramilitary academy where each recruit is challenged mentally and physically.

The objective of the Cadet Academy is to ensure that all new, entry-level employees are physically and mentally capable of performing the job of a Firefighter / EMT.

Upon completion of the Cadet Academy each cadet will be an IFSAC certified Firefighter I & II. The cadet will also be Haz-Mat Awareness and Operations Certified as well as EMT-B certified through the State of New Mexico.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Santa Fe Fire Department Training Division is to maintain a high level of training for Santa Fe Fire Department personnel by:

  • Implementing and applying new technologies
  • Training (both didactic and hands-on)
  • Facilitating the training of entry-level firefighters through a Cadet Academy
