Wildland Fire Team

Deployment in Montana
The City of Santa Fe Fire Department Wildland Team is made up of 22 individuals from all classifications of personnel within the department. Department members apply and are interviewed to fill vacant positions in the program and then go on to obtain additional and advanced training in wildland fire suppression, chain saw operations, aircraft use, urban interface tactics, and wildland fire incident management.

The objective of the Wildland Team is to give the City of Santa Fe Fire Department a group of individuals with advanced knowledge and experience of wildland and wildland/urban interface firefighting, and to make a direct impact in the event of such an incident happening within the department’s initial and or mutual aid response areas.

The City of Santa Fe Fire Department is also a part of the State of New Mexico Resource Mobilization Plan. The Resource Mobilization Plan (RMP) is a a joint powers agreement between the New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department’s Forestry Division and local governments. The purpose is to create a pool of nationally qualified wildland firefighting resources that can be mobilized to assist in the suppression of wildland fires and wildland/urban interface incidents throughout New Mexico and nationwide.
