Water Resources
Santa Fe River
The City has finalized 6 of 7studies analyzing and summarizing various physical aspects of the water in the Santa Fe River in the Santa Fe River Studies and are meant to assist the community in making water management decisions regarding the timing and magnitude of bypass flows to the Santa Fe River.  They cover the following topics:
-Stream Flow
-Storm Flow
-Stream Flow Losses
-Reservoir Storage
-Ecosystem Watershed Yield Analysis
-Fate of Reservoir Releases

Santa Fe River stream flow information from October 2006-September 2009 (WY 2007-2009) is available here.  For each of the three gages (‘below Nichols’, ‘above St. Francis’ and ‘Ricardo’)  the binders below contain:15-minute and mean daily flow records, a table with Mean Daily Flow, and a stream gage rating curve and table.  This data was collected by Watershed west under a contract with the City of Santa Fe.  Electronic stream flow data is available by placing a request to the City Water Division via the City Clerk’s office.

Buckman Well Field Monitoring Program
Recent Groundwater Level Report
The City's first Monitoring Program Report, dated February 2009, is available here for viewing.
It summarizes the impacts from the pumping of Buckman Wells 10-13 on wells in the nearby area.

Overview
As part of the permit requirement for the Buckman Well Field (OSE permit RG-20516), the City of Santa Fe is required to conduct groundwater monitoring in the vicinity of the Buckman Well Field to help determine the incremental effects that pumping Buckman Well 10-13 will have on senior well in the area. To facilitate public understanding of the groundwater effects, all documents related to the use and monitoring of the Buckman wells will be made available through this webpage.  Useful documents include:
-The Buckman Area Monitoring Plan
-The Buckman Area Production and Water Level Data, with monthly (1981-2009) and daily January 2006- mid-September 2009 production data, production well water level data, monitoring well data and water level hydrographs.
-Several monitoring wells in the Buckman well field area are measured periodically through a US Geological Survey/City Joint Funding Agreement.  User-friendly data and hydrographs for most of these wells can be accessed at a USGS ground water water site for New Mexico .  Additional well information is available at USGS Ground Water Database.  The USGS well idenification numbers as well as the water level information available to date been downloaded and analyzed in USGS Monitoring Well Data in the Buckman area in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Buckman Area Well Survey
As of February 2009, the City has completed a final well survey of all the wells in the monitoring program area. In order to increase the accuracy of the well information, the City has collected well information from well owners and neighborhood associations in the area (Buckman Monitoring Network Overview Map).

To check the accuracy of your well, well owners may download the Buckman Monitoring Program Well and Well Permit survey, the Buckman Well Area Index Map and Instructions on finding a well in the Buckman Area Monitoring Program Well Survey.  The instructions guide the well owner on the process to review the information, including downloading the larger-scale survey area maps pertinent to the well owners location.

The City's Long Range Water Supply Plan
The Governing Body adoped on September 24, 2008 the City's Long Range Water Supply Plan (Water Plan).  The Water Plan addresses how to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply to the City's current and future water customers.  The Water Plan components, as amended by the Public Utility Committee, the Water Conservation Committee, and the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission,  Executive Summary, full report and/or appendices are available here.

Water Rights
The City of Santa Fe is interested in purchasing Middle Rio Grande Valley pre-1907 water rights.  If you have water rights to sell, please contact Dale Lyons at 955-4204.

The Upper Santa Fe River Watershed
The Upper Santa Fe River Watershed provides up to fifty percent of Santa Fe's water.  To protect the drinking water quality, it has been closed to the public since 1932.  Some access may be granted through periodic educational tours and visits and for those conducting research.  The Santa Fe Municipal Upperwatershed Mangement Plan identifies the actions the City and the US Forest Service will take in the next twenty years to continue our roles in protecting this important natural resource.

Water Use in Santa Fe 2009 Report
The City recently completed a Water Use In Santa Fe II Report that analyzed water use by sectors (such as single family residential, apartments, restaurants, office buildings, hotels, etc.) compared to 10 years ago.

Domestic Wells
The City regulates the drilling of domestic wells within the City limits.  We are working on getting our domestic well application online; until then, please stop by our offices at 801 W. San Mateo for a copy or call 955-4202 to have one faxed to you.

2008 Water Update
The 2008 Water Update compiles and summarizes useful information about the City’s water utility including water supply, water production, deliveries, conservation programs, potable and wastewater resources and customer use data. The data presented in the report is current through 2008 with previous years added for comparison.
