May assist in delivering refuse bags to residential areas.

May serve as a messenger/courier.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

        1. Education and Experience:

            A. Some experience in manual labor and/or building/park maintenance work.

        2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in construction and parks maintenance.

Skill in developing and maintaining effective workplace relations.

Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions; to perform heavy manual labor; to use hand and power tools.

3. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid driver’s license preferred.

4. Work Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. May be exposed to loud noises, possibility of cuts, bruises, animal or insect bites, allergens, pesticides, herbicides, gases, fumes and sprays. Bending, twisting, reaching, climbing and lifting 50 pounds may be required. Irregular and extended hours may be required.

Swim Pool Lifeguard 2013-117

GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for swimmer/patron safety by enforcing swimming pool rules, and for basic pool maintenance.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general guidance and direction of assigned supervisor.

Enforces swimming pool rules among patrons and assists those involved in accidents of life endangering situations.

Maintains lifeguard station.

Cleans dressing rooms and pool area.

Assists in organized swimming classes; in performing minor repairs to swimming pools filtration plant and in injecting chlorine.

Prepares special reports.

Assists with clerical / front desk duties.

May assist patrons in weight room.

Assists and may occasionally work with clerical staff.

And other duties as may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

A. Must be at least 15 years of age with a worker’s permit and possess a current Life Guard Certificate from the American Red Cross.

2. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of lifesaving techniques; some knowledge of accepted public swimming pool policies, procedures, rules and regulations

Skilled Swimming techniques, backstroke, front crawl, treading water, submerged swimming.

Ability to enforce swimming pool policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

3. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must successfully pass background investigation.
Must pass drug and alcohol screening prior to employment and periodically thereafter.
Must become certified in Standard First Aid and CPR within 2 months of hire. Applicants will be required to swim 500 yds. in 12 minutes, tread water for two minutes with legs only, swim 25yds. doing approach stroke, retrieve a 10lb. object from a depth of 10ft., head and chin support of submerged victim/removal from water/EMS active victim rear rescue (unless previously taken and passed.) Must be in top physical shape and the ability to pass physical test to verify ability.

4. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed at an indoor and/or outdoor pool, sometimes in confined spaces. Is directly responsible for the safety of other people. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, germs, bacteria, viruses, dust. Arduous physical exertion required, including walking, standing, sprinting, running, bending, twisting, and climbing; must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Manual and finger dexterity and visual and hearing acuity required. Irregular working hours (including weekends) and a willingness to transfer to other swimming pools required. Must be able to accept multiple demands from several people.

Assists in park and athletic field improvements and maintenance including construction of park buildings, repair of existing structures and landscaping, and landscape maintenance.

Operates a variety of hand and power tools and light equipment such as push mowers, riding mowers, weedeaters, dump trucks, chain saws, tractors and front-end loaders.

May spray City property, both interior and exterior, with pesticides and/or herbicides.

Picks up and disposes of litter; empties trash cans; loads and unloads trash and other debris; may clear and burn underbrush in County parks; may perform graffiti removal.

Repairs breaks in water lines, sprinkler lines and sprinkler heads; may assist with irrigation line installation for ball fields.

Performs daily safety checks on equipment; cleans and maintains tools and equipment; reports mechanical or other defects to supervisor; reports any safety hazards or maintenance problems to immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

        A. High school education or equivalent; and
        B . (1) year of experience in appropriate area of assignment; or
        C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge of the operation and maintenance of hand tools and equipment, and of basic arithmetic.

Considerable skill in effective communication and interpersonal relations.

Ability to learn functions, safe and effective operating principles, methods and maintenance of light and heavy equipment; to understand verbal and/or written directions; to read and write; to operate appropriate tools, equipment and/or vehicles.

3. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit. May require a JMS-6 (Plumber’s License) and Herbicide/Pesticide certification. Must have a telephone in the residence or be available by another effective means of communication as approved by the supervisor.

4. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed outdoors under inclement weather conditions and at any time of the day or night. This position is routinely exposed to loud noise, vibration, fumes, odors, dust, infectious agents (germs, viruses, bacteria) and is subject to minor injuries such as scrapes, cuts, bruises, insect or animal bites. This position requires the ability to lift and/or move, carry 100 pounds and perform strenuous work involving bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, climbing, squatting and rapid movement. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. The ability to hear and speak is required. Overtime, weekend, holiday, night and shift work may be required.

Lead Rink Attendant (Classified/Full-Time)

GENERAL PURPOSE

To perform skilled duties around the ice rink and oversee rink operations in the absence of rink management; maintain order on the ice during public skate, implementing activities on the ice, distribute rental equipment, and provide customer service.

Maintain a safe skating environment by enforcing rink rules and regulations, distributing information, and providing customer service.

Oversee operation of the ice arena in the absence of ice arena management.

Perform ice resurfacing and edging operations with the use of the zamboni and ice edger.

Entertain customers with the proper use of music and activities during public skating sessions.

Operate sound system and maintain appropriate music selections and volume for the type of session.

Assist in maintaining the ice surface to ensure customer satisfaction, fun and safety.

Be aware of ice conditions and watch for holes, ruts, and other foreign objects as well as moving hockey goals and shoveling snow during ice re-surfacing.

Issue rental skates and other equipment to customers as needed, replacing skates on storage racks when returned.

Assure proper fit of equipment and sharpen and maintain rental skates.

Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility by performing custodial duties.

Distribute information to the public on all programs that are offered in the facility and/or direct inquiries to the right person or source for more information.

Answer telephones to give out information and/or direct calls to the appropriate person.

Implement reporting procedures as required by the community center policies.

Learn and demonstrate basic knowledge of the community center policies, programs and facilities.

Scheduling temporary staff and coordinating hockey leagues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:

A. High school diploma or equivalent; and
B. 6 months ice rink attendant experience preferred, and operation of heavy equipment desired but not required.

2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of operating a Zamboni ice resurfacer and skate sharpening equipment is desired.

Considerable skill in communication both orally and written.

Must have the ability to demonstrate proficiency at ice skating and physical conditioning commensurate for the demands of the job. Ability to operate in Windows NT, Microsoft Word, and some specific recreation related software is preferred

Mechanical Structural Specialist Senior - HVAC

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Mechanical Structural Specialist Senior performs journeyman level HVAC work; and, skilled facilities maintenance in the areas of carpentry, construction, electrical, heating and refrigeration, painting, plumbing, and/or irrigation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general guidance and direction of the assigned supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Provides guidance and direction, as needed, to Mechanical Structural Apprentices and Mechanical Structural Specialists.

NATURE OF WORK

Essential Functions: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. • Trouble-shoots, repairs and performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in their area of specialization. Monitors, installs, alters, renovates, repairs and maintains City facilities, mechanical equipment and/or utility systems related to buildings.

• Performs quality control inspections of City facilities and systems such as heating and cooling, plumbing and electrical.

• Reads, interprets and works from sketches, diagrams and blueprints.

• Logs in work orders on a daily basis.

• Generates materials lists.

• Performs routine maintenance and regular testing on facility equipment related to buildings and complexes. Maintains all mechanical systems including, but not limited to, electrical, cisterns and HVAC. Establishes and maintains scheduled system check, maintenance and temperature logs of all mechanical systems.

• Solicits and administers maintenance agreements for equipment and mechanical systems.

• Maintains and serves as custodian of all facility documents including, but not limited to, warranties and maintenance and service contracts for all equipment and mechanical systems. Maintains commissioning documents and participates in commissioning meetings.

• Performs cleaning, trash removal, snow removal, etc.

• Performs and assists in set-up and take-down for trade shows and other events.

• Provides or assists in providing on-the-job training for maintenance staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience, specialized education or training in carpentry, construction, electrical, heating, refrigeration, plumbing, painting and/or irrigation; AND, must possess a journeyman HVAC license with MM-3 or MM-98 classification.

Additional Requirements

• Must possess either Journeyman’s mechanical HVAC license in area of specialty as required by the State of New Mexico Construction Industries Division depending upon the current needs of the department.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and obtain a City of Santa Fe driving permit within three months of hire.

• Must live within 30 statute miles of the employee’s workplace and have a telephone in the residence or be available by another effective means of communication as approved by the supervisor. Must be available for 24-hour emergency stand-by duties when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of repair and installation equipment and tools; hazards and safe work practices on the shop floor and in the field; MSDS; principles, practices and theories of identified trade; English grammar, spelling and punctuation; and computer hardware and software used in the maintenance field.

Skill in developing and maintaining business relations and in interacting with staff, management and contractors; effective oral and written communication; performing complex system and component installation.

Ability to keep accurate, precise, and neat records and make entries into the facility log book; prepare and/or process purchase orders; be accountable for inventory/property management; use or repair heavy or complex machinery, such as HVAC systems, construction equipment,

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Work is performed inside and outside, sometimes in inclement weather. Work is strenuous and requires bending, stooping, reaching, squatting, climbing ladders and lifting of 70 to 100 pounds. Must be able to perform work at 20 to 70 foot heights such as parking lot lighting, sports lighting installations, etc. May be exposed to cuts, bruises, scrapes, shocks, unpleasant odors and fumes. Finger dexterity, visual and hearing acuity is required. May be required to work irregular hours, weekends holidays and evenings. Stand-by and call-back required.
