		<description>GENERAL DESCRIPTION &lt;BR&gt;
The Convention Center Operations Manager manages and oversees all aspects of Convention Center services, operations, safety, maintenance, purchases and the supervision of Operations staff. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
SUPERVISION RECEIVED &lt;BR&gt;
Works under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the Convention and Visitor&amp;rsquo;s Bureau. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
SUPERVISION EXERCISED &lt;BR&gt;
Supervises convention center operations and custodial staff. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
NATURE OF WORK &lt;BR&gt;
Essential Functions: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. &lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Plans, develops and executes operational policies and procedures for all Convention Center activities. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Coordinates, directs and supervises the work of assigned Convention Center personnel ensuring timely and quality activities to respond to the needs of clients. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions, promoting positive morale in the unit, ensuring staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance and providing leadership and guidance. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitoring levels of resources, establishing time lines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing, reviewing and editing reports prepared by staff, and approving completed projects and reports. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, providing solutions to problems and correcting errors. Assesses needs of the Convention Center regarding the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery to better meet client requirements. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Coordinates training for employees on all safety, ADA, fire codes, OSHA, and state, federal and local compliance needed to maintain all life and safety regulations. Coordinates all computer literacy classes for executing the networking system. Coordinates training on AV, lighting and staging courses as needed. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Develops, administers and monitors all client-related projects as assigned directly by the Convention and Visitor Bureau Director. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Reviews all correspondence (memos, letters, purchases, reimbursements, contracts, agreements and amendments) and exhibitor prospectus. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Responsible for preventative and corrective maintenance programs, production planning, budget control, timesheets, inventory and equipment control, reporting, production analysis/cost control, quality control, vendor liaison and other general and administrative duties, as needed. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Determines when contracted help is needed and secures it, creates work orders and implements policies and procedures. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&lt;STRONG&gt;Minimum Qualifications &lt;BR&gt;
Education and Experience&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;nbsp;&lt;BR&gt;
Bachelor&amp;rsquo;s Degree in hotel management, hospitality management or business; two (2) years of facility operations, maintenance and building systems experience that includes AV systems, event lighting, rigging, stage set-up, etc. in a high-volume, high-quality convention center and/or hotel operation including the direct supervision of staff; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, except that education above a Bachelor&amp;rsquo;s Degree may not substitute for the required experience. Event planning experience is highly desirable. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;BR&gt;
Additional Requirements:&lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
Requires valid NM driver&#39;s license upon hire and must obtain City driver&#39;s permit within three months of hire. Must be competent in the use of the City of Santa Fe&amp;rsquo;s finance systems and JD Edwards&amp;rsquo; computer system within two months of hire. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&lt;STRONG&gt;Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;/STRONG&gt;&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Extensive knowledge of event planning and coordination to include event lighting, rigging, stage set-up, meeting set-up and audio/visual equipment and operations; customer service techniques and principles; the principles and application of management and supervisory techniques; the City&amp;rsquo;s budgetary process, purchasing procedures, rules, and regulations; and AFSCME contract. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Knowledge of the hospitality industry and convention/conference center operations; computer applications, operations and peripheral equipment; spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic arithmetic; filing, record-keeping and standard office practices; preventative and corrective maintenance programs; production planning; budget control; inventory and equipment control; production analysis/cost control; and quality control. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Requires considerable skill in problem-solving to handle public and employees concerns; making executive decisions in non-emergency situations and to remain calm in very stressful situations; developing and maintaining effective business relationships; and effective communication, both orally and in writing. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Requires excellent interpersonal skills and skill in effectively utilizing the City&amp;rsquo;s budgetary processes, purchasing procedures, personnel rules and regulations, and AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. Must possess a highly responsible work ethic. &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
&amp;bull; Requires the ability to make executive decisions in non-emergency situations and to remain calm in very stressful situations; maintain open communication with all groups within and outside of the Convention Center; create and maintain effective working relationships will all clients, City Departments and Convention and Visitor&amp;rsquo;s Bureau personnel; keep the Executive Director well and often-informed of all group activities; follow-through on assignments and work activities; and analyze, plan, coordinate, direct, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. &lt;BR&gt;

Physical Demands/Work Environment &lt;BR&gt;
&lt;BR&gt;
Work is performed primarily indoors in the Convention Center and other City of Santa Fe facilities. Areas include stage, storage facilities, light and sound room, meeting rooms and main floor. An office setting is provided. Some travel may be required. Irregular and extended work hours are required. Position is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, lift, and climb steps and ladders. This position requires good visual acuity, including close, distance, peripheral, depth and color vision, and the ability to hear and speak. Irregular work hours may be required, including nights, weekends and holidays. &lt;BR&gt;
