[ACTIVE] City Starts Residential Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Pilot Project

A specific permit checklist has been developed for this type of project. The Residential Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Permit Submittal Checklist will be available on-line for reference.

Residential rooftop rainwater harvesting will require a building permit. A separate building permit will be required if the project includes a new dwelling or a remodel. The same set of plans can be submitted to the City, however, an additional permit application for the rainwater harvesting system will be required. The fee for a Residential Rainwater Harvesting permit is the base fee of $60. If secondary permits are needed, the plumbing base fee is $50 and the electrical base fee is $40. Therefore, if a Residential Rainwater Harvesting project includes plumbing and electrical features, the applicant will pay $150 total for the Residential Rainwater Harvesting permit and the secondary permits. Note: All secondary permits must be applied for by a licensed professional.

In October, 2010, staff will analyze the number of Residential Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting permits, the review station comments, the number of inspections completed and the fees collected. Then, with feedback and modifications, the Department will implement a permanent approach. At that time, the Department will consider developing a commercial rooftop rainwater harvesting checklist and permitting system.
