Wesley Studie, 66, was arrested Friday, July 26, 2013 just after 1 a.m. on the 1600 Block of Old Pecos Trail.
When officers arrived on scene Studie was being watched by a security guard. Studie told the security guard he was trying to change the tires on a Black, 2005 Volvo XC70 in the middle of the street and without emergency lights. The vehicle’s left front and rear tires were blown out and the car was resting on its rims.
Santa Fe Police Officers then made contact with Studie who showed obvious signs of intoxication including slurred speech, problems walking, bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of alcohol on his person. During the interview the suspect told officers he had consumed a glass of pinot Grigio about two or three hours ago.
Throughout the investigation, Studie was combative and confused. He could not tell officers what he had hit to cause the tire blow outs, how much he had to drink or where he was headed.
Studie refused to submit to field sobriety, breath or blood alcohol tests, hence the aggravated charge.
Video evidence shows Studie’s level of intoxication, and the suspect admits on tape to drinking and driving. At one point he tells officers, “I was driving drunk? Hell Yeah! On the other hand what the F*** for? What the F*** for?”
He is charged with Aggravated DWI and is being held at the Santa Fe County Jail on $3,000 bond.
Studie had a female passenger, 51, with him in the vehicle. She is the Volvo’s owner. The female is not facing any charges at this time.
